FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you provide online psychotherapy?
Yes! I provide online sessions via a secure online platform. Contact me by email @ lauraprendivilletherapy@gmail.com to book in a session
What should I expect for the first session?
The first session is an opportunity to explore how well we could work together. It’s an opportunity to determine if we are a good relational match for this in depth work. Its a chance for you to trust your gut and intuition around who feels safe for you. Typically in the first session we will explore some background info, and we will work on one specific issue in depth. I find this gives people an opportunity to get a feel for the work.
What kind of therapy is it?
The therapy approach is integrative, meaning I use a range of approaches dependant on your needs. These approaches are informed by neuroscience and include relational, somatic and cognitive approaches. I use a lot of IFS (Internal family systems) and EMDR in my practice.
Is everything we discuss 100% confidential?
Ever met your therapist in public and they did not acknowledge you? Don’t worry, that is how serious we take the issues of confidentiality and as a therapist we can’t let anyone know that you are even in therapy. Discussion of therapy contents with a third party can only be done with the client’s permission. However, there are some legal exceptions to confidentiality, which would be discussed and declared in the first session.
What is your cancellation policy?
- 48 hour Cancellation Policy
- If you know you will miss an appointment, please let me know as soon as possible so we can reschedule within the week.
- If you do not give a 48 hour notice and we cannot confirm a reschedule date within the week, you will be charged full price for the missed session.
Does online therapy really work as well as face to face?
In this modern-day, online therapy has proved to be more than we ever thought. Online therapy is as effective as face to face therapy and provides convenience and flexibility for both client and therapist. Prior to the pandemic, many therapists questioned the validity of online work, however now people have tried this approach many are using a blended style in their practice. Take a look at this presentation for some more detailed info on the topic of online therapy https://www.bacp.co.uk/media/8610/naomi-moller-andreas-vossler-presentation.pdf
For how long do people typically have therapy?
Ideally, therapy ends when the goal has been achieved. Goals have to be achieved at the same time avoiding dependency. There is no standard time frame as people react differently even if they present with the same problem. If you present with one specific area of focus, then it is likely we could work together for short term (6-12 sessions). If you are unclear of your focus, and feel generally stuck/ sad/ anxious then longer term therapy may be more appropriate.
How long will it take for me to feel better?
There is no straight answer to that. Everyone heals at their own pace, and they arrive to therapy at different stages in their healing process. Sometimes people notice an immediate relief, once they have shared what has been chewing them up. It is also quite common for people to notice an increase in symptoms early on in therapy as repressed emotions are released. We must feel to heal.
Is therapy worth the cost?
Well the first question is, do you want to get better? Are you ready to change? How ready you are is a factor. Therapy may appear expensive initially, however its an investment in yourself and your future. It could help you overcome your issues and give you tools to live a healthier and more meaningful life. You are worth it, its an act of self care and I hope you can start investing in yourself.
