FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you provide online psychotherapy?
Yes! I provide online sessions via zoom. Contact me by email @ lauraprendivilletherapy@gmail.com to book in a session
Do you accept insurance?
I currently accept insurance for UK clients with AVIVIA and AXA Health only.
For Irish clients, I am registered with VHI and Laya Healthcare.
What should I expect for the first session?
First of all, I just want to get to know you and your difficulties better. Feel free to share as much information as feels right for you. Taking your time is important and I’ll guide you with the pace. Your mental health is of utmost importance to me and we have to focus on that. I will ask questions and feel free to ask me wherever you need any clarification.
What kind of therapy is it?
The therapy approach is integrative, meaning I use a range of approaches dependant on your needs. These approaches are informed by neuroscience and include CBT, Neuro linguistic programming, Relational, Solution focused brief therapy, internal family systems and poly vagal theory.
Do you feel the pressure to be 100% mentally healthy?
Even though the temptation may be there, to appear so, it is very difficult to be 100% mentally healthy. Mental health is a spectrum and we all experience a range of emotions on a daily basis. I embrace them as the human that I am. I hope I can inspire you to do the same.
Do you ever get tired of hearing people’s problems?
Therapy can sometimes be a cognitive overload and that is why I balance work with exercise, meditation and time with my pets. I also avoid certain types of media as an act of self care. As a therapist I also attend regular clinical supervision and personal therapy to support me as a human and as a professional.
Is everything we discuss 100% confidential?
Ever met your therapist in public and they did not acknowledge you? Don’t worry, that is how serious we take the issues of confidentiality and as a therapist we can’t let anyone know that you are even in therapy. Discussion of therapy contents with a third party can only be done with the client’s permission. However, there are some legal exceptions to confidentiality, which would be discussed and declared in the first session.
What is your cancellation policy?
- 48 hour Cancellation Policy
- If you know you will miss an appointment, please let me know as soon as possible so we can reschedule within the week.
- If you do not give a 48 hour notice and we cannot confirm a reschedule date within the week, you will be charged full price for the missed session.
Does online therapy really work as well as face to face?
In this modern-day, online therapy has proved to be more than we ever thought. Online therapy is as effective as face to face therapy and provides convenience and flexibility for both client and therapist. Prior to the pandemic, many therapists questioned the validity of online work, however now people have tried this approach many are using a blended style in their practice. Take a look at this presentation for some more detailed info on the topic of online therapy https://www.bacp.co.uk/media/8610/naomi-moller-andreas-vossler-presentation.pdf
For how long do people typically have therapy?
Ideally, therapy ends when the goal has been achieved. Goals have to be achieved at the same time avoiding dependency. There is no standard time frame as people react differently even if they present with the same problem. If you present with one specific area of focus, then it is likely we could work together for short term (6-12 sessions). If you are unclear of your focus, and feel generally stuck/ sad/ anxious then longer term therapy may be more appropriate.
How long will it take for me to feel better?
There is no straight answer to that. Everyone heals at their own pace, and they arrive to therapy at different stages in their healing process. Sometimes people notice an immediate relief, once they have shared what has been chewing them up. It is also quite common for people to notice an increase in symptoms early on in therapy as repressed emotions are released. We must feel to heal.
Is therapy worth the cost?
Well the first question is, do you want to get better? Are you ready to change? Therapy may appear expensive initially, however its an investment in yourself and your future. It could help you overcome your issues and give you tools to live a healthier and more meaningful life. You are worth it, its an act of self care and I hope you can start investing in yourself.
